I need to set up my internet connection (in Yass town)
Can anyone let me know who they are using and type of service and rate the service provided.
Looking for a low cost service as I don't use it that much
I have to get a landline as well
Found I can't get naked ADSL.
Telstra's cheapest plan can only be used if the ISP is Telstra or doesn't use a shared line

any info appreciated Huh

I use EXETEL www.extel.com.au they have cheap plans for what i do lots of downloading and heavy gaming. The kids hit youtube fairly heavily, more tan enough for me.
Only complaint is they have absolutely no phone support, thats how they cut costs i expect.
In the 16+ months i have been with them i have no issues, they also send you an email if they are going to experience downtime.

TPG are also fairly cheap and i did use them prior to exetel, went to extel based on cost per gb download.
beagle.com.au are also another 'nice' ISP and interesting enoughthey offer ADSL2+ plans in this area, curious if that is the case.

Happy hunting  Grin

I use westnet - home page is http://www.mywestnet.com.au/

Yass Computers can set them up but you can also do it yourself. You can check out the Broadband plans at http://www.westnet.com.au/internet/broadband/

I use Exetel, the thing with them is they are generally for people that are more confident in setting up their DSL. The reason being if their are any issues with the service they want you to do some checks first (To help isolate the issue). Now on saying that, in a year of service I have had no issues with them or the service.

The ADSL2 is a wholesale/reseller agreement with Telstra. Most carriers don't use it as Telstra's wholesale price for ADSL2 is disgustingly expensive. Unfortunately only Telstra have ADSL2 in Yass.

Thanks people for your response....it made me feel welcom e.
I stumbled across Optus wireless mobile and because I am not a big user I have started off on their offer of $199 paid upfront which gives me a Huwaei USB stick and 1GB per month for 12 months. All I have need to date and don't need a phone line...Amobility and Optus gives the best phone coverage in this area.
Will now be using the classifieds to dispose of the overload of stuff accummulated in Sydney that I can't fit into my Yass abode

I realise that the OP may have already signed up to an ISP, but you can use the ISP finder on the Whirlpool forums to see who provides what in your local area.

Here's the link: http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/

ISP mean's  between the Internet and the user (you use). In fact, they allow users to validate their network and sends packets to their Internet gateway. They also accept packages from the Internet and feed them to their users. This feed back is really a response to a request. ISP's will not accept the return packages that do not feed on demand or they will send them. How this is done outside the scope of this forum.

I have no idea what you are talking about or how it related to the OP wanting to choose an ISP

I just spied a few reports on the net that some providers will be offering ADSL2 in Yass over the Telstra backbone.
I notice that Telstra are themselves now offering way cheaper plans if you have bundled services ... $80 for 200gb peak/offpeak on ADSL2.
I'm using exetel myself there plans are coming shortly $75 100gb peak/ 120gb offpeak.

Awesome news for those living in Yass.

Cheers
